The Africa Infrastructure Development Association is the association of leading developers, investors, financiers and advisers active across the Continent. Our fifty-plus members already account for about US$ 60 billion (around one-third) of private sector led energy and infra investments across the Continent. It is incorporated in Mauritius and is governed by a Board of Director under a Constitution of a non-profit. The current Chairman is Andrew Johnstone, Founder and CEO of Climate Fund Managers.
The Association promotes better outcomes in terms of scale, speed and quality of investment in energy and infrastructure across the Continent. A key initiative is the Catapult Accelerator. This is a mentorship and peer-peer learning program, aimed at scaling private investment with better outcomes in terms of speed, scale and quality of projects. Over eleven live pitch sessions, thirty-seven developers of projects from twenty-one countries have pitched projects totalling $ 20.9 billion in investment. These are private sector and PPP projects from energy, digital-ICT, water, irrigation, rail, airport, SEZ and new-cities. These projects have been mentored by over forty senior executives from thirty-seven institutions active across the development and financing of infrastructure across Africa.
Beyond the Catapult, AfIDA regular advocacy and thought leadership round-tables with Governments and for sector – along with promoting white papers to improve the enabling environment for private investment in African infrastructure. It also runs a successful training program in project development finance, which is open to both the private and public sector.
