The sector is responsible for over a tenth of Ivorian GDP. A major development in 2024 that contributes to this was the landing of the 2Africa cable, taking the number of submarine connections to the country to six.
In terms of infrastructure, there is a long-running plan to install up to 7,000 km of fibre backbone, which is currently underway. This has been complemented in recent times by heavy Huawei involvement in the backbone network, including provision of optical fibre and microwave network deployment.
On the wireless side, February 2025 saw three of the country’s main operators – Orange, MTN and Moov Africa – commit to deploy 240 sites across the country, following the issuance of fines to the companies in 2021 for poor service performance.
The data centre sector is also strongly developing in Côte d’Ivoire. ST Digital is building a 4,000 sqm site in Grand-Bassam for completion in early 2025, which followed facilities completed by MainOne in November 2023 and WestOne at the end of 2023.
